QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute - Bus Trip
18 members headed off on our trip to QIMR last Friday (15/02/2019). Brian’s Coaches was able to provide a 24 seater coach that helped reduce our cost. Also by having the smaller coach we were able to go into places a larger coach could not go. Mick our driver took us on the scenic route as we had some spare time. We travelled past Doomben race track and up Hamilton Hill to see some large and expensive houses on our way to Bowen Hills. Clare from QIMR met us and took us upstairs for morning tea before heading into the auditorium for a great and informative presentation on how they started, expanded and some of the things they are working on now. We then headed up to one of the labs and talked to two scientists, Jacinta and Pei. They told us what they were currently working on which was very interesting. Got to see some cells under the microscope.
Back on the coach, once again we took the scenic route pass some lovely houses as well as our driver’s house to Geebung RSL for lunch. Here we enjoyed a very nice lunch and time to have a chat. Some indulged in a large ice cream in a cone. Headed home around Shorncliffe and along the foreshore at Sandgate and Brighton. Great day had by all and very interesting to hear about the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and the great work they do.
