AUGUST BUS TRIP
We had 38 head off under cloudy skies at 8 AM on Friday 16 August for our trip down to the Mudgeeraba Light Horse Museum. We had good travelling with no delays arriving there at 9:40 AM to a bright and sunny day.
We sat under the marquees to hear a bit about the museum and what it does and how they are trying to get more school kids involved.
We had a display of horsemanship by Chris who had spent 8 years in the NSW mounted Police. He also put on a display of tent pegging using the lance and a sword.
After this we had a lovely morning tea provided by Margaret from Red & White Coaches under the mango tree behind The Shed which is heritage listed.
We then went into The Shed to hear some more stories and about the various displays in The Shed and Schmidt farmhouse. There are displays from the Light Horse, 1st & 2nd world wars, national service in the 50’s, Vietnam War plus a lot more.
After spending some time checking out all the displays and talking to the various volunteers, it was back on the coach for our drive down to Currumbin RSL for our lunch. We enjoyed a 2 course lunch at the RSL which has great views over Currumbin Creek.
After lunch back on the coach ready for our return trip. Before we headed off we drew the raffle with Barb Hornsby winning the wine and Ethel and Hazel winning the mystery prizes. We had a very good run home arriving in Redcliffe just on 4 PM. Great day had by all and special thanks to the Volunteers at the Museum for giving their time and sharing their stories.
