On Friday 16 October 39 members headed off on our trip to the Majestic Theatre Pomona. Left Redcliffe at 8:15am with a picked up at Deception Bay arriving in Pomona around 10AM after a good trip up the Bruce Highway. Stopped at Topper Park in the main Street for morning tea. Back on the coach for the short drive to the Majestic Theatre for our silent movie viewing. They had us set up in the theatre for lunch and the movie. Before the movie started we got a brief history about the theatre which is the longest running theatre in Queensland and will be 100 years old next year. The movie we saw was ‘Seven Chances’ which is a 1925 American comedy silent film directed by and starring Buster Keaton, great movie, lots of laughs by all. The gentleman playing the organ during the film did a fantastic job and is the current owner of the theatre. The organ was donated to the theatre and took 6 years to repair and rebuild and it sounds great.
After the movie we enjoyed a nice 2 course lunch in the theatre and a cold drink. The volunteers at the theatre did a great job.
Before heading home we drew the raffle, thanks everyone for their support, this helps in keeping the cost down. We travelled through Cooroy before joining the Bruce Highway for our drive back to Redcliffe arriving around 4. Great day out and everybody enjoyed themselves.
