Bus trip to Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue Centre
34 of us headed off under cloudy skies on our bus trip to Twinnies pelican and seabird rescue centre. However, by the time we stopped for morning tea at Matthew Flinders Park near Mt Tibrogargan the sun was shining and it was very humid. The park was wet and lots of muddy areas, but we enjoyed a nice cuppa. Back on the coach for a short drive up Steve Irwin Way to Twinnies just north of Landsborough. Here we were met by the twins, 2 very interesting ladies, who go and rescue injured sea birds and look after them till they recovery and can be released back into the wild. They gave us a talk on the work they do and then took us on a tour of their facilities.
Pelicans are on a steady decline and they will do anything they can to look after them. They are a volunteer group and rely heavily on donations. They are very passionate about the work they do and have been doing it for 21 years. After some photos been taken of the twins, we headed off to Kawana Bowls Club for a very nice 2 course lunch.
After lunch we did the raffle draw before returning home arriving in Redcliffe about 3:30PM. Great day had by all and everyone enjoyed the twins and the information and stories they had to tell.
Check-out Twinnies Facebook page for more photos of the day.
