Stunning Dams of South East Queensland
On a beautiful spring day, we headed off to visit the finest dams in Southeast Queensland. We enjoy a very nice morning tea at the Bellevue Hotel in Coominya. The fresh scones just kept coming along with all the other goodies. We then made our way to Atkinson's Dam where we stopped to check it out. This lake is a popular recreation spot for power boating, water skiing and jet skiing and is stocked with a variety of freshwater fish. Good to see it with lots of water and there were a few people enjoying the facilities. Taking a leisurely drive through Esk, we make our way to Somerset Dam for a delicious picnic lunch of cold meats and salad at The Split surrounded by water and unspoiled bushland with spectacular mountain views. After lunch we drove down the east side of Wivenhoe Dam pass Splityard Creek Dam and the hydro power station before driving along the dam wall. Our last stop was at Cormorant Bay Recreation area before returning to Brisbane. Our driver gave us lots of information on the dams etc. which was very interesting. Had a fairly good run home and everybody had a great day.
