Wolston Farmhouse
27 of us headed off on a very hot autumn day for our trip to Wolston Farmhouse. Stopped for a lovely morning tea at Rocks Riverside Park on the Brisbane River at Seventeen Mile Rocks near Jindalee.
Travelled out past both the men’s and women’s correctional centre at Wacol to the farmhouse. Sitting on the back veranda with a slight breezes blowing to try and keep us a little bit cooler we heard the history of the 3 families that owned the 170 year old farmhouse before it was taken over by the government and now run by the National Trust. We then did a tour of the old house (couple of people bumped their heads on the low doorways). Then had a scenic drive out past Gailes and Goodna before making our way to Redbank Plains Tavern for a very nice all you can eat buffet lunch. I am sure everyone ate too much.
Quick stop at Hans Wacol factory outlet on our way home arriving back in Redcliffe just before 4PM. Great day had by all in spite of the hot weather.
The tree and the farmhouse are 170 years old. Sitting on the back veranda hearing the history of the house. This area use to be a 6 bedroom children's wing as 1 of the families had 12 children, but it had to be removed as it was full of white ants. And yes it was Saint Patrick's day, so some did dress in green.
After a buffet lunch at Redbank Plains Tavern.
